Belief in Your Product or Service: An Authentic Commitment

Belief is the cornerstone of any successful sales endeavor. It’s not just about believing in the product or service you’re selling but also believing in yourself, your company, and the industry you’re part of. In my book, “The Master Salesman: Jesus and the Art of Service”, I delve into the profound connection between belief and sales, drawing inspiration from Jesus’ teachings.

The Triad of Belief

The Triad of Belief is a concept I’ve developed that encapsulates the essence of belief in sales. It consists of three core elements:

  1. Belief in Your Industry: Understanding the value and potential of your industry is crucial. It’s about recognizing the positive impact your industry can have on people’s lives.
  2. Belief in Your Company, Product, or Service: You must genuinely believe in what you’re selling. If you don’t, how can you expect others to? This belief stems from knowing your product inside and out and understanding how it can solve problems or fulfill needs.
  3. Belief in Yourself: Confidence in your abilities and your value as a salesperson is vital. You must trust that you have the skills, knowledge, and integrity to guide your customers to the right decision.

Jesus’ belief in His mission, His message, and Himself is a perfect embodiment of the Triad of Belief. His conviction was so strong that it inspired others to believe as well. As it says in Mark 9:23, “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

The IDEAS Sales System

The IDEAS Sales System is a method I created to put the Triad of Belief into action. It consists of:

  • Introducing: Identifying a customer and making an intentional introduction.
  • Discovering: Engaging in extreme active listening to understand the customer’s needs.
  • Evaluating: Taking time to really understand what the customer is saying.
  • Adapting: Tailoring the presentation so it is most valuable to the person.
  • Serving: Recognizing that selling is serving. We sell to help the customer.

This system is not just about making a sale; it’s about building a relationship and providing value. It’s about serving the customer in the best way possible.

Applying These Principles

These principles are not just theoretical; they can be applied in everyday sales situations. By embracing the Triad of Belief and the IDEAS Sales System, you can transform your approach to sales. You can move from being transaction-focused to being relationship-focused.
